The best canned fish I've had! January 30, 2008 D. Frischling (Acton, Maine) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Bar Harbor canned fish products are of the highest quality and offer a great value. I've had this product, the Cabernet wine sauce and the cracked pepper varieties.
Of the three, this is my favorite with the wine sauce a nice second. The cracked pepper type is essentially this one with black pepper added, which really doesn't work for me (but is still far better than most canned fish).
The fish is soft and moist and is not overpowered by any heavy handed oils or weird additives. Very simple and pure ingredients give it a very clean taste with a wonderful texture.
I highly recommend it!
If you like fish.............. November 12, 2008 Ernest J. Smith (Santa Rosa, California) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This product is evidently produced in Canada, probably in New Brunswick, from wild herring harvested in or about the Bay of Fundy or the Gulf of Maine.
The herring are filleted and then lightly smoked before canning. The result is a delicious, healthy and wholesome
food item that mates well with warm, crusty French bread or multi-grain crackers. Highly recommended.
My prostate loves kippers May 6, 2009 Ishmael (Montana) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Go ahead and google it. Oily fish like herring and mackerel keep you well down there. They're chock-full of omega-3 fats. Just as important, these little lifesavers--unlike tuna--are at the bottom of the fishy food chain, meaning that they have much lower mercury levels than well, tuna. I've been eating herring for years and Bar Harbor's taste like they just came out of the sea. Okay, that's not true but they do taste much better than every other canned fish I've tried.

These kippers have a very good flavor and the price is reasonable. The only thing I am a little disappointed in is that the pull tabs break off of the lid and I have to open the can with a screwdriver and pliers. Not so good on the quality of the can itself.
Delicious snacks! May 6, 2010 Melissa R. Dale 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Normally I buy Appel (imported) or Trader Joe's brand tinned herring, but was looking for a variety without canola oil and stumbled upon these on Amazon. Upon ordering these, I had a tin right after I received them. The price is right - the other varieties I was buying were slightly more expensive and usually there were few in stock at the store - maybe 1-4 cans only. The Bar Harbor herring is great - no canola oil, tin is easy to open, and the fish is just the right texture and taste - not too smoky, not too overpowering. These are great and I'll definitely be reordering!
